Many of us use Microsoft Outlook for emails, appointments, and calendars. But Google Calendar is a good alternative or it’s much better than Microsoft Outlook. Google Calendar can be used for free. Google calendar can be viewed from any computer anywhere using web browser and internet. Google calendar also provides capability so you can allow others to view your calendar, so your family or friends can check your calendar and plan accordingly. This is really a cool feature I liked very much.
But what if people you to use both Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar and want to make both the applications in sync. Do we have any solution to keep the two applications in sync?
Yes, Google itself provides an application which helps to sync the Google Calendar with Microsoft Outlook. The name of the application is Google Calendar Sync.
Google Calendar Sync allows you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar. You'll be able to determine the direction of information flow, as well as the sync
frequency. It provides following three types of sync options between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar:
- 1-Way Sync: Google Calendar to Microsoft Outlook Calendar
- 1-Way Sync: Microsoft Outlook calendar to Google Calendar
- 2-Way Sync: Google Calendar to Microsoft Outlook Calendar and vice-versa
Google Calendar Sync works with Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007 versions. As of now it is only compatible with Windows XP (32 bit) and Vista platforms.
Setting-up Google Calendar Sync is very simple, just download and run the Google Calendar Sync utility, enter your Google account info, choose your sync option (1-way or 2-way), and then specify how often the utility should sync your calendars (the default is every two hours).
After installation, the first sync will take a couple of minutes, but after that it will run and sync both the applications seamlessly.
